Acne isn’t fun. Unless you’re one of those genetically gifted freaks who has never had a bad skin day in their entire lives, almost everyone has had to endure the discomfort and indignity of having a face covered in oozing, inflamed pustules.
For most of us, acne plagued the hormonal and emotional No Man’s Land phase of our lives otherwise known as puberty, and blessedly, for some people, that’s where acne’s trauma ends.
However, for many people, acne can leave more than just mental and emotional scars. This is why there are so many websites dedicated to answering the question of how to get rid of acne scars. There are also products and treatments for the fast removal of acne scars, as well as a good number of home remedies for acne scars.
How Acne Scars Happen
Acne can develop when the pores in your skin get plugged up by sebum (oil that the body produces naturally), dead skin cells, or dirt. Bacteria can grow here, sometimes causing the skin to get inflamed, and pus can collect around the area. In the most severe kinds of acne, red bumps and pus-filled cysts can form, damaging the skin. Different kinds of scars can result from the damage the pustules, pimples, and cysts that acne can wreak; keloid scars, discoloration, depressed areas on the skin, or raised lesions.
Some people are more prone to scarring than others, but usually, to prevent scarring from becoming permanent, problem spots should be identified and treated early so that the skin repairs itself better, making it less likely for scars to develop in the first place.
How to Get Rid of Acne Scars
Of course, sometimes, no matter how hard you work to keep scars from forming, they can still show up. Over time, scars can fade and become less visible. This is because as skin renews itself, old, damaged tissues are replaced by newer, healthy skin cells. Most of the time though, scars won’t disappear completely on their own. If you want fast removal of acne scars, there are a lot of different treatments available.
A lot of topical creams and serums can kick-start your body’s natural healing and skin renewal processes so that your scars fade more quickly. However, since scar tissue is mostly dead, damaged skin, treatments like dermabrasion or microdermabrasion, laser therapy, chemical peels, and surgical therapies like subcision are best for fast removal of acne scars.
Different Forms of Acne Scar Treatments
Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion both involve exfoliation; the removal of the damaged skin through abrasion: by simply scrubbing the dead skin away. The difference between the two kinds of exfoliation is that microdermabrasion is gentler and not as invasive. These treatments work even on scars that had formed a long time ago.
Laser resurfacing therapy, on the other hand, softens scar tissue by actually wounding skin a little using intense, microscopic light pulses. The body heals the microthermally wounded areas, repairing the scarred tissue as well, making the scars look a whole lot better than before.
Chemical peels use a solution that makes the top layer of the skin blister and peel off so that the skin that the body regenerates is much smoother and less scarred and wrinkled.
Subcision is a treatment best used for the really deep kinds of acne scars that leave depressions in the skin. With this surgical treatment, skin in the affected area is separated from the scar tissue, which lets the blood pool under the area and allows the skin to grow more level. Afterwards, other treatments, like the ones listed above will smooth out the scar tissue itself and even out the skin color.
Home Remedies for Acne Scars
The treatments listed above are great for the fast removal of acne scars, but they can be costly and uncomfortable. If you want to save some money and trouble, try some do-it-yourself exfoliation and skin renewal recipes.
One way to make acne scars look less visible is to lighten them using lemon juice. If you don’t have lemons, other kinds of citrus work too, but this works best with very sour kinds of citrus fruits. Simply apply the juice over the scars and let it stand for a few minutes, then wash it off.
Try mixing and matching fruits and vegetables to place on your face. Those rich in vitamin A, like tomatoes for example, aren’t just good to eat, but by combining pureed tomatoes with pureed cucumber and applying the mixture to your face for five to thirty minutes, you can soothe and tighten your skin, prevent excess sebum production, and renew damaged skin. Just be sure to wash your face afterwards, so you won’t smell like a pasta dish.
These home remedies for acne scars won’t show results as dramatic as conventional treatments, although if you want to figure out how to get rid of acne scars, using recipes like these frequently can really help make the fast removal of acne scars even faster. Try using them in combination with more conventional treatments for better results and healthier skin.

ok this is something i heard about lemon juice. try drinking it and putting it on your face and just use it like a toner. IDK if this works though, I havent gotten around to trying it. This is for what I know about acne scars as in the discolorations. And dont use a scrub because some are used to draw the oil out of your face, making acne
THIS WORKS!!! ok so put equal amounts of olive oil, honey, and lemon juice into a small bowl and mix well. slather onto face and leave it on for 30-60 minutes. afterwords, moisturize with aloe vera and your scars will be noticably faded in the morning!!
Its a proven fact that your pores don’t actually ‘open’ and ‘close’ or tighten if that’s what you want to call it, so if anyone tells you that hot water will open and cucumber will tighten is wrong, don’t believe it….. here read this

Ok, so I’m almost 15. I’ve suffered from moderate-severe acne since age 11. I’ve honestly thought about committing suicide because I get made fun of for my acne. I’m fed up with it, and I want to do something about it… can anyone, please help me. Email me?
kaila. I also had acne. I started to break-out when I was 12. I asked my doctor about an acne treatment and she recommended Clindamycin phosphate topical lotion and Differin, which is a gel. After one month I got less pimples. But the problem is that now I have acne marks. I have been using these products for 2 months and they are great. Use the lotion day and night. The gel only night. When you first start using them, u see an increase of acne, because the treatment works inside your skin but it is all worth it. I f you have any question just reply. These things really work, trust me.
im 19 and have suffered from severe acne most of my teenage life. its horrible and really break down your self esteem. i tried everything from expensive face washes to natural remedies nothing worked. then i went to the doctor and got pills called oretane a generic version of accutane. within the first week i saw significant difference. ive been on it for 4 weeks and all my acne is gone and scars are starting to fade it is amazing. the pills are a bit expensive but definately worth every cent. there are some discomforts like extreme dryness of the skin and lips and peeling in the face which looks terrible but a good moisturiser helped with that and it only lasted a week or 2. sun bloc is very important as your skin gets very sensitive. i have 2 weeks left in my course of treatment (treatment is usually 6months but many people stop after about 3 months in severe cases or in my case 2 months.) my skin now looks clearer softer and has a more natural glow. i only wash my face with a mild cleaser and moisturise. try it its really worth it . suicide its not the answer there are a lot of treatments out there that are really great. i was dead set against the pills but now i regret not startiin earlier. and the acne will also go away as your hormonal changes come to a end. just hang in there and try it it will really change your life. it changed mine. feel free to mail me anytime
Accutane! worked for me, only thing that did and I love it!
Kaila,
Have you tried talking to a dermatologist? I’m 19 and I’ve always had bad acne too. I tried pretty much everything you can buy at the drugstore and none of it really worked for more than a few weeks until I got perscription creams and even pills for my skin. They worked miracles for me. Also I know if your acne is sever enough the dermatologist will consider putting you on a treatment called accutane. It’s definitely worth looking into or talking to your doctor about if your skin problems are affecting you mentally and emotionally to that level.
Also, try getting more excercise, drinking lots of water, and eating lots of fruits that are high in antioxidants. Its not a cure but being healthier will make your skin brighter and make you feel better too.
I’m really sorry that you get made fun of for your skin and that you feel like committing suicide because of it. I know that its not easy. Nothing is easy when your 15. I felt awful when my skin was at its worst, and everyone would tell me it wasn’t that big of a deal. I understand that it is a big deal and when when you feel that bad about how you look you’re not just being vain. I know it sucks. But I want you to know that it gets better someday. You’re skin won’t always be as bad as it is now. And even if it feels like the end of the world now, its not
I know it’s hard to be teased because of your skin because it’s happened to me so many times, but you’re going to be a better and stronger person than any of the people who make fun of you because of what you’re going through. Don’t let acne run your life. I am sure that there are people who love you, isn’t that something worth living for? Don’t give up.
accutane works to get rid of acne it will get rid of and prevent acne from coming back , topical creams for the scars
Clearasil Ultra pimples and marks fades scarring effectivly (: it is great. I’m going to try and use bicarbonate soda and lemon juice. Because some of Mine are stubborn. But I suggest clearasil ultra
To get rid of my pimples FAST I used Acne Free Terminator 10. It’s an orange tube, it has 10% benzoyl peroxide. I haven’t had a breakout since. I’m currently using Clearasil Acne + Mark face wash/mask and also a foaming Noxema wash. It worked great. I just started using lemon juice on my face. So far so good. I bought this all at Walmart. Good luck!
@jasmin What the
treatment that you used?
Kaila,
I’m sorry you are being teased at school sweetie. Family and friends who love you for who you are love you because you’re an amazing person, not because of your skin. I know in high school seems like a huge deal, but if someone treats you that bad you don’t want to be friends/date/or associate with them. They’re not worth your time. I was just like you in high school and now those guys wish they could date me. I have literally tired everything but the kitchen sink on my face. You need to find what is right for you. My friend tried accutane and it worked wonders. I didn’t find the right thing for me until a year ago. It is called Exposed and it’s an organic route, one that I hadn’t thought of trying. Its about $50 for the basic kit, but it lasts me about 3 months. There is a wash, toner, serum, acne buster and then a dermo cloth. My face has really cleared up and people comment on how soft my skin is and it has a glow because there aren’t any harsh products in the line. All I can say is it has to get worse to get better. Some other hints are try not to touch your face, don’t add extra oils, stay away from makeup if possible or maybe move to something mineral that wont clog pores and try not to pick at acne, I know it’s hard, but it will save your skin from scarring in the future. Also use a clean fresh wash cloth daily and change pillow cases or anything that touches your skin often. Stick to a schedule and do not break it. There are some good secrets and tips I’ve read here that sound helpful. I’ve always been told if you are in a jam and you need a zit downsized good old classic toothpaste overnight does wonders. I hope this helps, but if not it sounds like some others would sure like to help. Best of luck and hang in there you will find what is right for you!
