How To Be Healthy, In A Nutshell

by Jessie Lin

As the saying goes, “Health is Wealth”. It really is. No matter how much material things you have in life if you are unhealthy, you won’t be able to enjoy them. Although they say that life is short, it’ll definitely becomes shorter if you don’t take good care of your health.

Health and wellness is important in our daily lives. For us to be happy and to make other happy as well, we should give utmost importance to them. Of course sometimes there are misses in our diet or exercise which is normal but it doesn’t mean that we won’t do anything about it. I know that there are factors that are out of our control but why focus on them? Let’s do the things that are within our control and do good at them. We’ll be giving you tips on how to stay healthy for a fruitful and happy everyday life.

Party Like A Good Girl

Hey, we all need to have fun once in a while. When “party activities” turn into a regular, everyday thing, though, we may have a problem. Avoid vices as much as possible. I’m referring to smoking, excessive drinking and drugs. They won’t do any good to you. Smoking will destroy your lungs leading to many complications that will be fatal to the human body if not addressed right away.

Too much alcohol on the other hand will destroy your liver. With your liver in bad shape, the cleansing of the body will be affected big time. Liver cirrhosis is the worst form of liver problem and an operation would cost lots of money.

Last thing would be drugs. Obviously, some are worse than others, so it’s up to you to use your brain. Pharmaceutical drugs are suppose to help combat illnesses. but if misused and abused, can be fatal. A lot of celebrities have died because of this but until now, it’s still out and still, a lot of people is abusing them. Drugs will target the brain which controls the entire body. With the brain in an abnormal state, how would you expect your body to respond? This leads to not only a health but social problem as well. Always remember that there’s not HOPE in DOPE.

Eat Nice & Clean

Be a diet-conscious person. Make sure that you’re eating healthy food as often as possible. Eat less animal fat and more fiber. Eat a lot of those green leafy vegetables, tomatoes and fruits. Avoid eating in fast food chains as much as possible. Just make yourself and healthy sandwich or burger at home. Make sure that you have a balanced diet and make sure to avoid overeating. You can at least have a rough estimate regarding how much energy your body can consume a day. Use it as a reference. Most of the time, we mistakenly regard hunger for thirst so if you feel like you want to eat more, drink water first.

Avoid too much soda. Never consume a can of soda with an empty stomach as this may start hyperacidity and other stomach problems. Hyperacidity can be very painful and if it keeps on coming back, it’ll ruin your good mood on a good day.

Protect Yourself at All Times

I may sound like a boxing referee but this is also applicable in your daily life. When I said protect yourself at all times, I’m referring to things like wearing protections whenever necessary. This will prevent health injuries that can lead to serious problems and even accidents that can lead to deaths.

Wear your helmets whenever necessary. If you’re driving a motorcycle as your transport vehicle or into extreme sports, never forget this. Head injury as we all know can be fatal and it can affect your health big time when damaged.

Buckle up for safety. I don’t think I need to elaborate on this one. It only says wear your seatbelts. It’s been built there for a cause.

Wear a mask and appropriate outfit whenever necessary. If you’re in a place such as hospitals, health clinics or other health establishments where patients of different sickness are being cured, always wear a mask. Also, don’t forget to wear the appropriate outfit. You’re just preventing yourself from spreading a virus or bacteria that may cause sickness at home or in your community.

Nix The ‘Dirty Mouth’

Never forget to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Use mouthwashes if deemed necessary. Think this has nothing to do with your health? WRONG! Rotten teeth can cause infections to your tonsils and throat. Complications may follow if not addressed right away. Worst scenario is the removal of your tonsils that protect your heart from getting infected.

Aside from brushing your teeth, you can also floss your teeth after every meal. It ensures that no food particle is left in between your teeth.

More Stress Relief, Please!

Stress is a silent killer according to many studies. It can cause multiple health problems. Skin irritations, lack of temper, lack of appetite, anxiety and insomnia are just a few of them. Whenever possible, participate in de-stressing activities. Unwind yourself, medidate, enroll in a yoga class or simply relax yourself at home by rewarding yourself a soothing bath or massage. You can also take vitamins to combat stress.

Have Enough Sleep

Sleep for at least 6 hours straight for adults whenever possible. 8 hours is even better. This helps your body relax and regenerate. During sleep, our body detoxifies the organs, arranges your thoughts and puts your muscles in a state of healing. You will be refreshed and it’ll help restore your energy and bring you back to a balanced state. If you’re experiencing sleepless nights, consult your doctor for proper medication.

Guzzle H20

Water is known as the ultimate body cleanser. Our body needs a lot of water to function well. Our brain, external and internal organs depend on water. Dehydration can cause major problems to your body.

Our brain is about 85% or water. Having said that, what will happen if your body doesn’t have enough water? Your brain may slow down processing your body’s requests and may give you a major trouble.

Our digestion can be done well only when there’s enough water. Not enough water can lead to constipation. I know that we’ve all experienced this and you’ll probably agree with me that it’s one of the things that I would never want to happen ever again!

Cleansing our body to take out toxins and harmful substances which is mostly done by our kidneys depend on water. Kidney problems can be fatal. Transplants nowadays although most are successful needs a lot of money not to mention that your kidney’s donor should match yours.

Work It Out!

Exercise a few times a week even if you’re lazy. It’s a must. In fat, it will pretty much cure you of your laziness. I don’t think that this is a hard thing to do. Simply walking is an exercise. There are ways to workout that even more fun, too! Engage into sports, enroll in a gym, mop your floor, clean your room, mow your lawn, ride a bicycle, paint your fence and a lot more of simple activities can be done to have a workout for your body. If you really want to tone your body seriously, go to a gym and talk to a gym instructor. He’ll formulate a plan that will suit your need.

These are simple but definitely important tips that you can follow to have a healthy life. These tips are also for lazy people who mostly stay at home. No matter how lazy you are, you need to be healthy to enjoy your life. Being in a hospital treated of something that could’ve been avoided is definitely a waste of time and money. Start living a healthy life. Remember that health and wellness need to be given utmost important not just for you but also for your loved ones. We all know that prevention is better than cure.
